Our History

In 1845, Mr. D. T. Barker started his first lumber business in the state of Connecticut.  After Mr. Barker migrated to Walworth County in 1871, he continued the pursuit of his dream and established a lumber and building supply yard alongside the railroad tracks in Elkhorn, WI.  Barker Lumber Co., like the Midwest, continued to flourish and grow.

In 1881, Mr. Barkers’ oldest son, Albert, became a partner in the business and expanded the company by opening the Delavan yard at the corner of 7th and Wisconsin Streets.  The yard soon became one of the largest and well known in the State of Wisconsin.

Four years later, in 1885, Mr. Barker’s other two sons, Charles and Eugene, joined their father in business.  The basic and trusted principals of customer service established long ago by the Barker family, have remained the same and have carried on for over 130 years.

Today, Barker Lumber Co. continues to be a leading supplier of quality building products in the highly competitive Southeastern Wisconsin and Northern Illinois market.  Holding true to the basic principals of exceptional customer service and superb quality, the company will continue in its successful journey for years to come.
